I have had several people call/email about the current dog flu that is going around. Asking if their dog should be vaccinated and what precautions to take. First and foremost there is NO VACCINE for this particular strain of dog flu. There is a dog flu vaccine available, but not for the strain that is going around. Also a vaccine is a preventative, not immunity for your dog. Getting a vaccine for any flu, like humans, your dog can still get the flu. The safest way to keep your dog from getting infected is to take the same precautions we do. Wash your hands, keep your dogs away from dog parks, dog hotels/daycare, the vet even (unless necessary obviously) and groomers. Any place where many dogs congregate or have been.
